So, one of the many self-imposed challenges of this year for me has been forcing myself to wake up at dawn and go out, shoot the world in the morning hours. The first time I did it, it was relatively “easy” as I had a consistent reason to do it and a very pressing deadline. It was then or never, there was no space for procrastination. The second time was yesterday. I had planned to start a new photo project sometime before all this “mess” started. The thing is, what I lack is motivation and a pinch of courage. And finally yesterday morning I thought: is this not what it means to be a photographer? To capture the beauty and the truth for others to see through our eyes? …
Love in the Times of COVID19
This morning I went to Marvila for my last class of Fotografia Analogica. I had imagined how this day would go for some time … the reality, of course, was a bit different. But it’s ok, we are all in this together. We say hi and bye with a smile that says so much more: “We understand and have respect for one another’s health and although it would be comforting to just greet as usual we are going to keep the distance as much as possible.” It is not fear, it is respect and love. I wish more than anything else that all this becomes an opportunity to remind ourselves of what’s really important. This is a good time to finally slow all down, look at what we are left with when all the chaos of our daily routine is gone.
